Walking into Don’s is like walking into island paradise and that is what I think of when I think of summer.
There is so much to be said about Don the Beachcomber. After spending some time talking with Mr. Arthur Snyder, the owner, and reading up about Don’s history online, I became very appreciative of this entertaining location. Mr. Snyder pointed out that Don the Beachcomber is equivalent to the old Golden Bear that use to reside in Huntington Beach years ago. As soon as Mr. Snyder mentioned the Golden Bear, I knew exactly what he was talking about. The Golden Bear was first mentioned to me by my dad and I almost didn’t believe that my dad received a compliment from Eric Clapton one night after Mr. Clapton had played at the Golden Bear. Come to find out, many many famous musicians, comedians etc played at the Golden Bear before it closed in 1986. Mr. Snyder was comparing his place, Don the Beachcomber in the sense that Don’s has live entertainment every night and some fame associated musicians. Such as Robby Armstrong, brother-in-law to actress, Cameron Diaz, who has a band that fills up the place when he plays and Fully Fullwood who has worked with many talented reggae artists that we all know today such as Bob Marley and Peter Tosh. Mr. and Mrs. Snyder used their savings to take over the place just a few years ago to keep Don’s dream alive.
Don the Beachcomber caters to the whole community for entertainment and dining. Providing unique venues, there is sure to be something Don the Beachcomber can provide for someone looking to have a great time out day or night.
Happy hour specials take place throughout the week from 3pm-7pm. Weekend nights are affordable with Don’s late night happy hour from 11pm-1am. Feast on some Hawaiian faire or try one of Don the Beachcomber’s signature rum drinks.
Most Tuesdays are Texas Roadhouse nights and Wednesdays are Blues and Jazz.
And coming later in September, which I thought this to be unique is a Senior Comedy Afternoon. Comedic senior citizens putting on a performance with a Hawaiian buffet included!
