It is a 20-acre rare dune habitat that is surrounded by coastal salt marsh, but is infested with non-native Ice plant and other invaders. Ice plant has invaded the rare dune habitat that provides a home for rare and endangered plants such as the coast woolly head.
The restoration of this area is crucial for the health of the wetlands since it is prime habitat for threatened and endangered bird species such as the Belding’s Savannah Sparrow, Western Snowy Plover, California Least Tern, and Clapper Rails.
Come help remove these invasive plants and learn more about Bolsa Chica and the long-term effort to protect and restore it. Please wear proper attire for outdoor work. Work gloves and water will be provided.
Space is limited so please be sure to reserve a spot. Volunteers are limited to individuals who are 15 years old and up.
