Today, 1,100 car dealerships nationwide received notification that U.S. auto-making giant General Motors would not be renewing their contracts when they expire late next year. Additionally, the company will shutter approximately 500 dealerships that carry the Saturn, Hummer and Saab brands. The announcement of the restructuring came as GM prepared to file bankruptcy on June 1. Some of the criteria for choosing which dealerships would be axed included sales figures, customer service scores, location, and condition of facilities. How will this affect Huntington Beach dealers like DeLillo Chevrolet on Beach Boulevard, which has been family owned and operated since 1962? “We haven’t received anything, so I don’t think we’ll be affected,” offers DeLillo’s relieved business manager, Cindy Springer. The official list of dealerships to be closed has not yet been released, but we’ll keep you posted if any HB auto businesses are included.
